Larke Peak Climbing (6219m) is home to Tamang and Sherpa, Tibetan Buddhists, and some of the calmest and peaceful people on earth. These are the DalaiLama’s people. The Manaslu region is also home to the endangered snow leopard, red panda, Himalayan Black Bear, grey wolf, monkeys, musk deer, blue sheep, and of course the ever-present Yaks that roam the grazing lands at high altitudes. This is also where Nepal’s beautiful rhododendron tree grows and blossoms in spring in white, pink, and red flowers. The rhododendron is Nepal’s native emblem and stands out in stark contrast to the juniper, cedar and bamboo forests. There are believed to be 33 species of mammals, 110 species, three species of reptiles, and between 1500-2000 species of flowering plants.
The trek begins at Soti Khola and gradually heads higher, initially to Larke La Pass (5106m) and then on to your goal – Larke Peak (6219m). At nearly every stage of this trek, you will be stunned by the soaring snow-capped peaks and by the tranquil Tibetan villages as you head closer and closer to the Tibetan border.
