Description

Annapurna Seven Passes Trek is a relatively new trekking adventure around the Annapurna region. It is a fairly challenging trek that takes you through high passes, thick jungles, fast pacing icy streams. 

It is one of the rarest and most exciting trekking routes of Nepal. You will walk through some untouched forests and if you are lucky enough, you may also see Red Panda

World-famous mountains like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Lamjung Himal, etc will be your traveling companion. They will not let you feel lonely throughout this journey. This region is rich in diverse landscapes, rivers, cultures, and heritage.

Annapurna 7 passes trek also provides alternatives for trekkers who want to spend long days in the peaceful wilderness of nature. As its name suggests, it goes through 7 different high passes within 20 days. You can have this trek throughout the year and experience different floras and faunas with the background of majestic Himalayas.

You will drive to Taal from Pokhara and start this journey of Annapurna 7 passes trek. There are uphills, downhills, rivers, dense jungles that you have to cross all these to complete this journey. This adventure trek is ideal for those who have a long time and desire to spend some time in the mountains.

20 Days Annapurna Seven Passes Trek Itinerary

The first day of Annapurna 7 passes trek starts from the drive towards Taal. You will start this journey early to avoid the traffic on this route. Have early morning breakfast and head toward Besisahar.

Driving to Taal is a beautiful journey along the bank of the Trisuli River. Your vehicle will follow the rhythm of the Fast-flowing Trisuli river. You may have your lunch in Besisahar. The route from Besisahar to Taal is off-road, so prepare yourself for some rough ride.

This route from Besisahar to Taal follows the Marshyangdi River. Soon you will stop for the checkpoint in Khudigaon. From here you will cross several rivers and bridges. You will also see the Chinese made hydropower tunnel in this way.

Chyame is the place you will go after crossing all these criss-cross roads. You will have some break and tea here at Chyame. After you continue from here, you will see waterfalls and roads are still rough.

You will reach Taal after 8 to 9 hours. Taal is a beautiful Gurung village standing proudly on the bank of Marshyangdi River. Lodges are available plenty in number. Make this night memorable because you are staying here tonight.

Today is trekking day, have your breakfast and start the journey. You will continue to trek by the side of Marshyangdi River. It is a 6 to 7 hours journey to Tilje.

Khotro (2200m) is the destination for you after walking for 2 hours. From Khotro you will hike upwards. Nache is a beautiful village on the top of the hill. A few homestays are available here in Nache. You may have your lunch here, after having lunch you will continue to trek.

While descending from Namche, you will cross through a beautiful suspension bridge of 130m long. Standing on this bridge, you will have a beautiful view of Bagarchap, Dharapani, and Timang villages.

You will have a perfect view of the Marshyangdi corridor. A beautiful pine forest covers this area. The smell of the forest is unforgettable. You will pass through the small monastery and continue the trek until you reach a motor road. Here comes a suspension bridge, and you will reach Tilje. Tilje is a small but beautiful village that is also used for Manaslu trek.

Today you will trek towards Tachai where you will pass through different beautiful villages. It is a journey of 5 hours.

You will cross a bailey bridge and after walking for 20 minutes you will see stalagmite cave. It was a meditation place for Lamas and also popular among tourists. You will arrive at a resting place after walking for 10 minutes.

After walking for 1 hour through the beautiful forest, you will reach Tachai. Tachai is a small Gurung village on the top of the hill. This village also has natural hot spring water too. It lies at a distance of 20 minutes from the main village. Homestays are available in adequate numbers, you will stay here.

Today you will walk through the beautiful surroundings of Ghelinchok village. To reach the saddle of Chonga Danda 3282m, it will take you more than 2 hours.

You may encounter some animals like Himalayan Griffon and Monkeys. As you rest and see the village you have come across, you feel nostalgic about it. Descending part of this journey starts from here until you reach Chonga River.

Pine forest covers this river stream route, from here the trek starts to climb the uphill. You have to cross a river from the small wooden bridge. After an hour of hiking, you will reach the place where you can have your lunch.

Crossing different pine and Rhododendron forests, you will finally reach Shongle Kharka. This 8-hour journey finally comes to an end.

This is your fifth day of Annapurna 7 passes trek. Having your breakfast seeing the mountain in front of you is an incredible moment.

As you move higher, you will see the Annapurna range for the first time. You will start your trek and continue it for 45 minutes until you reach a small shepherd hut. At the altitude of 4217m, Kuchumro Phedi offers you beautiful landscapes, houses, and hospitality.

This valley comes into life with the bells of Yaks and barking of their Shepherd dogs. You will have your dinner and rest here while preparing yourself for the next day.

You are heading towards the settlements of Yak herders and Yarchagumba harvesters. In late spring this whole region is full of people collecting precious Caterpillar Fungus/ Yarchagumba.

Today is a long as well as uphill trek so prepare yourself for it. Your journey starts with the beautiful Manaslu towards the east and Lamjung, Annapurna to the west. After 3 hours of walk, you will reach the top of the hill. This hill offers you a majestic view of Manaslu and Lamjung ranges.

There is a snowy pass ahead in this journey. You need to carry your trekking gears like gaiters, crampons, etc. Once you cross the Kuchumro pass (4900m), the trails will take you down for 30 minutes. After this downward trail, you will climb again to reach Yarcha Pass (4860m).

As you cross Yarcha pass, you will have the view of Kangaru Himal and Annapurna II. Continuing the trek downhill you will reach Namakyu and this is a place for your stay today. You will camp by the riverside directly facing Lamjung Himal and Kangaru Himal.

Today is a new day and you continue your journey towards Meta and Meta Pass. Clear sky with the view of Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II, and Gangapurna add beauty to this journey.

After having your breakfast you start the journey. You will walk 10 minutes uphill and then descend for the next 15 minutes to reach the small glacier. There is a small river on the way, after crossing it you will continue the uphill journey.

As you walk for 2 hours, Pisang Peak will be welcoming you. Beautiful Pisang monastery standing in front of Pisang Peak. You will now head towards Meta Pass (4635m) following the same route of Pisang.

After Meta Pass, you will descend towards Meta village. It will take you 4 hours to reach Meta from Pass. Crossing the small bridge ahead and walking for 1 hour you will reach Meta small.

You are on your eighth day of Annapurna 7 Passes Trek. Today is a long but moderate trek. You will start the journey after having your breakfast.

The early morning sunrise view of Lamjung Himal is magical. Capturing this magical view in your eyes, you will start this easy walk. As you walk in higher altitude you will experience the trans-Himalayan region which is drier.

After an hour-long trek, you will reach the former settlement of Khampa people that is Jhunum. This place is now home for residents of Nar village in the winter season. Khampa people were residents of eastern Tibet.

After crossing the glacier river you will reach another Khampa settlement at Chyakhu. The road ahead is full of an uphill and downhill trek, crossing the river through the small bridge you reach Kyang.

You will have lunch here and continue the trail following the Phu River on the left side for the next 3 hours. When you see Big canyon in this way, it is a signal that you are near Phu. 15 minutes ahead in this journey takes you to the old gate. Crossing all the leftover of the old fort and little ahead you will see the first glimpse of Phu. After you cross the suspension bridge leading across the river, you reach Phu village.

Today you will trek to Loang via Phu Pass (5200m) that will take you 7 to 8 hours. It is an early morning trek to the Takshi Lhakhang monastery which is an important site for Buddhists. You will visit this place and return to the hotel for breakfast which takes you around 50 minutes.

Through the village of Phu, you start today’s journey. You see the beautiful view of Himlung and Kangaru Himal. The climbing part starts as you move ahead of Phu village. Walking through the scree field you will be 1000m above Phu village.

The next destination is a viewpoint, you can see Kangaru, Himlung, and Bhrikuti Himal. The Phu pass is another hour of walking. You cross Phu pass and descend yourself to the base of the Hill. After 1 hour of trek, you reach Loang and you will stay here tonight.

After having breakfast with the view of Himlung and Kangaru Himal you start your trek for today. This is an ascending journey towards Nar Pass (5400m). Throughout this journey of 3 hours Himlung and Kangaru Himal stays with us.

The scree fields ahead of this journey make it more challenging to reach the pass. When you reach the top, a 360-degree view of Himlung, Bhrikuti, Kangaru, and Annapurna ranges will mesmerize you.

Take enough photos and enjoy the moment because you will be heading downwards from here. You will lose about 1400m while descending downwards and reach to Chekchu.

After breakfast, you start descending for 1 hour until you reach a suspension bridge. From this point of the suspension bridge, you will start trekking upward for 2 hours to reach Nar village.

From here you will continue for another 20 minutes to reach a small village. A steep uphill will lead you to beautiful Nar Village. You will stay here tonight.

Kangla Phedi is your destination for today. After having lunch you will move from Nar village to Kangla Phedi.

After 3 hours of trek, you will reach Kangla Phedi. You will see snow-capped mountains throughout this journey. Today you will stay here at Kangla Phedi.

Today you will go straight uphill until you reach Kangla Pass (5350m). If you ascend early in the morning you will be able to see a great view of Pisang Peak and Chulu. Further, on this journey, you will also cross a small glacier stream.

You will ascend slowly towards the top of the ridge to reach Kangla Pass. From the top of the Kangla Pass, you will see amazing views of Annapurna, Lamjung Himal, and Chulu range. The downward journey starts when you finish taking photographs.

You will follow the trail below a scree field with a wide valley. This downhill journey will take you 3 hours to reach Ngawal which is the place for your stay today.

You will continue your journey through the southside of the river. This trail includes a long climb towards the ridge which passes through Upper Pisang via Ngawal.

This route guarantees you the mesmerizing view of Annapurna and Pisang Peak. You will pass through Pine forest and villages like Braga. As you cross farming terraces and walk near Manang, the climate becomes cold and dry. The total time for this trek is 4 hours.

Continue your trek towards Marshyandgi valley. It is a long trek today which takes you 5 to 6 hours so have a good breakfast and it should be able to hold you for some time.

Before reaching Yak Kharka you will reach the valley of Jarsang Khola. After a few hours, you will reach Yak Kharka and hike around the surrounding hills. You may also see some famous blue sheep. Overnight here at Yak Kharka.

In this journey of Annapurna 7 passes trek, today is the day you will reach Thorang High Camp. You will gain height as you ascend the valley and come back down to cross Jarsang Khola.

From here you start the uphill trek to reach Thorang High Camp 4920m. This area is wilder and best for the adventurous soul inside you.

Today you will reach the maximum height of this Annapurna 7 passes trek. It is a challenging journey ahead towards Thorang La (5416m).

From Thorang High Camp the journey is straight upward until you reach prayers flag at the height of 5416m. The ascend is challenging not because of vertical distance but because of high altitude. This hard work is worthy when you see the panoramic view of Annapurna, Mukut, and Mustang. Himalayan scenery above the Kali Gandaki is mesmerizing. 

To reach Muktinath you will follow along but down a steep. Muktinath is a beautiful small village that is a sacred place for Hindu and Buddhist. Your guide will explain the cultural importance of this place.

Today is a downhill trek following Kali Gandaki Gorge which will lead you to Tibetan Plateau. The majestic view of Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri will hypnotize you.

Passing down to Jomsom, you cross Kagbeni and Jharkot which is worth your visit. Further down you will reach a delightful Marpha village. This village is famous for its apple, apple cider, apricot, and peach wine. After 5 hours of trek, you will reach Jomsom which is also your place for your stay.

From Jomsom, you will drive to Pokhara. The spectacular view of mountains, waterfalls, and landscapes will mesmerize you throughout this journey.

It is 8 to 9 hours of journey. By evening you will be at the hotel. Pokhara has many things to offer you. Nightlife is best of them, you can chill around drinking and dancing.

Last day of Annapurna 7 passes trek, you will head towards Kathmandu from Pokhara. Seeing the urban settlements and diverse landscape you will reach Kathmandu within 6 hours. Enjoy this ride and sightsee the capital city of Nepal that is Kathmandu.

Best Time To Go Annapurna 7 Passes Trek 

September to November

This is the most popular tourist season in Nepal. The weather this season is beautiful and it is the start of winter in Nepal. Days are warmer and nights are pretty cold so bring clothes that match this changing environment. 

March to May

Another popular season is between March to May which is the Spring season in Nepal. Rhododendron forest covers most of the routes in this Annapurna 7 passes trek. The color and scent of Rhododendron are all over this region. The trails are dust-free because monsoon has cleared the environment.

How Difficult is Annapurna 7 Passes Trek?

Altitude sickness may be the main problem for the trekkers during this trek. Increasing altitude and decreasing the oxygen level create major problems.

You have to walk for 5-6 hours daily which needs both your physical and mental strength. 4 out 7 passes exceeds 5000m so you need to have strong determination to complete this trek.
