Gokyo Lake Trek is one of the most popular trekking regions in Nepal. This is a moderate trek (lies in, Everest region), which highlights the series of beautiful turquoise lakes in the Gokyo valley and the famous Cho La Pass, takes us through the landmarks of the Khumbu region in the majestically soaring mountains, friendly Sherpas, colorful monasteries, the Namche Bazaar and Lukla Airport.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu (1,320m), TIA Airport and Drop to Hotel that you have booked

Welcome to Tribhuvan Int’l Airport, Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal! One of the representatives from Mount Mania will be waiting to welcome you with fresh Nepali garlands and then transfer to your hotel by private vehicle. You will meet with trek guide and then brief about your trek.

Day 2Flight: KTM to Lukla, trek to Phakding (2,650m): 25 minutes flight, 3 – 4 hours trek

After a morning flight to Lukla, you’ll be introduced to your guide and porter. After having a short break in Lukla. You will start your trek with an easy walk through Chaurikharka village and descent towards Thadokoshi to Ghat (2,530m). The trail follows the bank of the Dudhkoshi River until Phakding (2,652m), where you will be staying for the night at a teahouse. You can enjoy the view and vibe of Teahouse accommodation.

Day 3Trek: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m): 5- 6 hours

After breakfast in Phakding before gearing up for the trek to Namche Bazaar, the biggest sherpa village in Nepal. Our trail takes us first over the Dudhkoshi River via a long suspension bridge, and then through a beautiful pine forest to Monjo, about two hours away. Soon thereafter, we will approach the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park for a brief permit check and then descend to Dudh Kosi River (spotting Maney stones along the way!) en route to Jorsale. We will stop for Lunch, and then it’s uphill to Namche. Our trekking path along the riverbank crossing one of the highest bridge in Khumbu Region- which is the Hillary Suspension Bridge. From Top Danda, you will see the first glimpse of Mount Everest. After one hour trek, we will overnight at Namche Bazaar – One and only gateway to Everest.

Day 4Rest & Acclimatization Day around Namche Bazaar: (3,440m) 3-4 hours

Next day is all about acclimatization. We will hike to Everest View Hotel (3880m) where you can view Mt. Everest, Mt. Lotse, Mt. Nutse, Mt. Amadablam and other mountains. This hike will help speed acclimatization for trekking to Everest Base Camp. Also, you can check out the Sherpa museum for an overview of the Sherpa culture and history of mountaineering. On Saturdays, the Hatt Bazaar is open for trading and an intimate look at the locals’ marketplace. It is part of the larger Namche Bazaar, a shopping hub filled with all manner of trekking and mountaineering clothing and gears. Namche Bazaar, is the last stop for exchanging foreign currency and withdrawing money from ATM.

Day 5Trek: Namche Bazaar to Dole (42,00m) 5-6 hours

After having a breakfast, we will start our trek to Dole. The trail climbs up from the town and then outline around the hillside, offering great views including Everest and Khumjung. Then the trail ascends along the lower slopes of Khumbila, branching northwest of the Everest trail and continuing up the Dudh Koshi Valley. It climbs steeply to the tiny village of Mong La (built around an ancient stupa), then drops to Phortse Thenga before climbing through a pine and rhododendron forest and on up to Dole – from where there are marvelous views of snow-capped peaks. Look out for spotted deer, Himalayan Tahrs and birds – including the colourful (male) Danphe pheasant (Nepal’s national bird). Overnight at Teahouse.

Day 6Trek: Dole to Machhermo-(4,470 m) 5 - 6 hours

After having breakfast, we will walk along this high trail. It climbs, through the thorny alpine scrub, to scenic ridges above the river. Breathtaking views of Cho-Oyo, Thamserku, and Kangtega are countered by charming views into the valley below where we pass summer-grazing hamlets such as Luza that lead up to Machhermo. The Machhermo Khola flows through the village of Kyajo Ri and Pharilapche before draining into the Dudh Koshi. Overnight at a Teahouse.

Day 7Trek: Machharmo to Gokyo (4800 m) 5 - 6 hours

After breakfast, the trail rises gently from the village to a ridge that offers the first views of the north face of Cho-Oyo (8,201m) and extends the views of Kangtega and Thamserku. Ahead in the valley is the Ngozumpa Glacier: the trail drops back towards the river. At the hamlet of Pangka it meets an alternative route from the south before climbing onto the side of the moraine. A metal bridge crosses the edge of the frozen Longponga Tsho (4,690m): the first of the Dudh Koshi’s six sacred lakes. Before Taboche Tsho, a path leads up onto the glacier – and the Cho La. A strenuous half hour’s walk beyond the lake is the summer village of Gokyo set on the side of the moraine and overlooking the blue-green Dudh Pokhari which nestles in a semi-circle of high peaks at the foot of Gokyo Ri. Cho-Oyo and the ice ridge to Ghyachung Kang, from which the Ngozumpa glacier flows, are clearly visible behind ridges. Overnight at Teahouse.

Day 8Day Hike around 5th Lake in Gokyo (5000m) 4-5 hours

After having a breakfast, we will day hike around 5th Lake in Gokyo which takes 4-5 hours. Later, we will trek back to Gokyo. From the 5th lake, you can get an outstanding view of Mt. Cho-oyo (8201m) and Ghyachung Kang (7952m). Overnight at Teahouse.

After breakfast in early morning, we will climb up to the viewpoint of Gokyo Ri (5,360m) for Sunrise, which begins on the northern side of the lake, opposite the village. Panorama invites an early start and involves a two-hour climb to its summit. It overlooks the broad, rubble-covered Ngozumpa Glacier, Nepal’s longest, gouged out beneath a wall of towering peaks on its south-eastern flank. From the summit, you can enjoy the unforgettable vista of the Himalayan chain that includes Cho-Oyu and Ghyachung Kang, the north face of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Cholatse, Taboche, Thamserku, Kangtega, Kusum Kangru (all over 6,300m) and many more, some unnamed. We will trek back to Machhermo. Overnight at Teahouse

Day 10 Trek from Machharmo to Namche (3440m) 5-6 hours

The Machhermo Khola flows through the village of Kyajo Ri and Pharilapche before draining into the Dudh Koshi. After 5-6 hours trek, we will spend our overnight at Teahouse in Namche.
